School Wide Positive Behavior Program

School-Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (SWPBIS) at Clara Barton Elementary School

School Rules:

  1. Be Respectful.
  2. Be Safe.
  3. Be Ready and Responsible.

In 2008, Clara Barton Elementary School instituted a school-wide positive behavioral intervention and support program that recognizes students who are demonstrating the desired positive behaviors we are encouraging through the use of paw print tickets. This program creates a school-wide climate of respect, safety, readiness, and responsibility. Through this program, students are more academically engaged, and there is an increased sense of community purpose within the school.

Staff members present students with paw prints if they are demonstrating expected behaviors in the classroom, in the hallway, in the cafeteria, and at recess.  When a student receives a paw print, he/she is told why he/she is earning the ticket so the behavior is reinforced.  Paw print tickets are worth one point.  Paw prints are exchanged for privileges and prizes.  There are several “levels” of exchanges.  For example, 25 points equals a shirt (which is required for the first purchase).  Teachers also have their own classroom prizes/activities (pencils, extra recess, board games, etc.).  There is a monthly “menu” of special events in which the students can participate in, if they have the amount of tickets needed (e.g., karate night and pictures with Santa).  There are also opportunities for students to go to the “Pride’s Den” once every other month to purchase tangible items (e.g., stuffed animals, pencils, puzzles, and jump-ropes).

Please review our school-wide rules frequently during the first few days of school, and to have “booster” lessons throughout the school year to remind students of our expectations.  Also remember to have our school-wide rules displayed in your classrooms.

Please contact a member of the SWPBIS team if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, or if you would like to join our team!
